Yacht Shows & Networking
What yacht shows actually do for your career
A boat show is not a holiday with yachts. Used properly, it is the fastest relationship-building tool in the industry. Used badly, it is an expensive walk.

People treat yacht shows as either an industry holiday or an intimidating closed shop. They are neither. They are the one week a year when almost everybody you need to meet is within walking distance.
What shows are actually for
- Meeting the people behind brokerages and management companies in person
- Seeing yachts you have only ever seen in listings
- Understanding which companies are growing, hiring or repositioning
- Learning how brokers talk about their own yachts
That last one is underrated. Listening to a good broker present a yacht teaches you more in twenty minutes than a month of reading.
How to work a show without being annoying
Go with a plan and a shortlist. Know which stands matter and why. Introduce yourself with one clear sentence about where you are and what you are looking for. Ask questions about their business rather than asking for a job. Collect contacts and follow up within a week, while they still remember your face.
The part beginners get wrong
The goal is not to hand out a CV. The goal is to become a familiar, credible person. Brokerage is a relationship business, and one genuine conversation at a show is worth more than fifty applications sent from a laptop.
Show up curious, come back with three real contacts, and follow through. That is the whole strategy.
