IN THIS LESSON

Welcome back to lesson two! I hope lesson one sparked your excitement, as we dive deeper into my personal journey with MyOcean and how it all began.

During my internship, I found myself thrown into the deep end. With my mentors, Jonny and Michelle, traveling on opposite sides of the world—Bali and Africa—I faced significant challenges. Communication was difficult with an 8-hour time difference, and I had to step up, learning to rely on myself to manage charters smoothly. While the learning curve was steep, it proved invaluable in developing resilience, problem-solving skills, and the determination to overcome obstacles.

Do, Fail & Grow

Do, fail and grow. Mistakes were inevitable, but each one was a stepping stone. Through perseverance and self-reflection, I showed I could grow and adapt. That growth mindset propelled me from an internship to a role as Operations Executive, overseeing yacht charters, yacht management, and even dabbling in private jet services. Back then, My Ocean had a smaller team, and being involved in every aspect allowed me to gain experience and insight far beyond my years. Also super important to note, do not go into this for the money. You’re still young so learn, build your network and start leveraging that!

Specializing in Yacht Charter Brokerage

As My Ocean grew, so did I. I expressed my passion for chartering to my mentors, who supported me in becoming a dedicated yacht charter broker. This role has allowed me to focus on planning and selling world-class yacht charters across destinations worldwide like the Mediterranean, Dubai, and the Philippines. From managing VAT regulations to handling unique client requests (yes, even coordinating a supercar to loaded onto a boat), it’s been a creative, challenging, and fulfilling role.

Building Resilience and Relationships

Success in this field isn’t easy—it requires a mix of creativity, quick thinking, and embracing challenges head-on. Whether organizing surprise events or adapting to unexpected situations, the focus is always on making each client’s trip extraordinary. And as the saying goes, "People make the difference." Relationships are the foundation of this business. Meeting fascinating clients and hearing their stories has not only opened doors professionally but has been one of the most rewarding aspects of this career.

Key Takeaways

  1. Adapting to the Unexpected: Challenges will come. Embrace them as opportunities for growth.

  2. Creative Problem-Solving: Tailoring each charter to exceed expectations makes all the difference.

  3. Build Connections: Strong client relationships lead to long-term success and mutual inspiration.

  4. Don’t do it for the money: Networking, building experience, failing and learning should be your priority.
